NIH Electrical Vaults Upgrade
Various Buildings

EDG2 is currently providing design-build construction services to upgrade and replace electrical vaults in various buildings throughout the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, Maryland.

The Design and construction of a secondary substation as is in compliance with NIH Design Policy and Guidelines, standards, National Electrical Code, Life Safety Code, and all other applicable codes.  This project includes the replacement and upgrade of building electrical work and vaults including but not limited to, transformer, network protector, switchgear, feeder breakers and any other electrical components necessary.

The secondary substations will be spot network type with three transformers, spot network protectors, main Switchgears, feeder breakers in the switchgear, tie breaker.  The spot network configuration will be sized to allow one network transformer to be removed from service, with the remaining spot network transformers are capable of carrying the entire load indefinitely without transformer fan-forced cooling, plus an additional 25% spare capacity designated for future modifications to the electrical power distribution system.

Each secondary spot network includes a 3-position primary 15 kV switch, network transformer, a secondary network protector and no-load break isolation switch. The spot network substation is designed, assembled, tested, and installed in accordance with the latest applicable standards of NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI applicable to network transformers and network protectors.
