Representative Projects

Web Hosting Company, Beaumeade, VA

This Virginia-based Web-hosting data center was a 160,000 SF facility with 76,000 SF of raised floor and construction cost of $55 million. The project called for engineering, architectural and construction services for a build-out of 76,000 SF of raised floor in an existing 95,000 SF building, with an adjacent 70,000 SF building reserved for future growth. The project design provides a 24xForever™, fault, maintenance and change tolerant mechanical and electrical infrastructure that will support their Internet operations. The project features total scalability to allow future growth to occur simultaneously with normal operations. This fully scalable building required sophisticated structure to support multiple Web-hosting areas and includes a state-of-the-art security system.

Colocation Provider, Houston, TX

For the construction of this colocation company’s first data center in Houston, Texas, EDG2 provided professional services including architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, sprinkler and plumbing engineering. The new, out-of-the-ground project, comprised approximately 40,000 SF of space, approximately half of which is intended to be rentable white floor space. The remaining half is designed as shipping/receiving and electrical rooms sized to fit two 1125kVA power pods. This Tier III, 2n space supports 250 watts per SF at a capacity of 1000kVA with dual redundant distribution paths to the rack level. The electrical system is scalable with multiple UPS modules (4-500kVA), power distribution units and generators. The rack power branch circuit path consists of UPS distribution units on the raised floor with step-down transformers.

Government Agency, Washington, DC

EDG2 developed a brand new, 1 million SF headquarters facility. This data center featured 20,000 SF of raised floor with a construction cost of $75 million. EDG2 designed the electrical and mechanical systems supporting this state-of-the-art data center, the base building and tenant space. Designed for 24xForever™ system operation, the data center is equipped with the most current system plus redundant UPS and standby power generation plant installations. The center provides support for this agency’s  entire national data processing operation.

Insurance Company Troy, NY and Scranton, PA

EDG2 provides on-going on-call engineering services for this insurance company. We recently provided electrical engineering services to assess the infrastructure supporting a total of eight data center spaces in their facilities in Troy, NY and Scranton, PA. This effort included conducting a reliability analysis of critical power infrastructure, computational fluid dynamics to model air flow for each center, and analyses of availability and mean time between failures. The project required extensive data gathering (including detailed site surveys, interviews and reviews of as-built drawings, O&M manuals, maintenance records and projects currently under construction). We also conducted an evaluation of the existing systems’ tier level compliance and identified single points of failure, problems associated with equipment, electrical and mechanical infrastructure configurations, expandability, maintainability and change tolerance of the infrastructure.

Telecommunications Provider, 20 Locations

EDG2 served as the prime designer for a global network of data centers, which includes more than 1 million SF of raised floor in more than 20 data centers globally. We provided site evaluation and design/engineering for the data centers, which range in construction cost from $50-100 million and average between 90,000 and 150,000 SF, including between 53,000 and 85,000 SF of raised floor. EDG2 created the master plan and the standard design for this initiative, which featured Tier 4™ Plus, a mixture of static UPS and rotary systems, and between four and six computer room modules. We also provided comprehensive electrical, mechanical and fire protection system designs for fully Fault, Maintenance and Change Tolerant™ infrastructures capable of supporting 24xForever™ computer operations. As part of this project, EDG2 also developed a corporate design standard for use in all their data centers.
